Frank Warren, co-promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says a showdown with Anthony Joshua is still possible in the future - if Joshua rebuilds himself.
Joshua has lost back to back fights to current WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk. The second of those defeats took place last Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
If Joshua wins a few contests and gets his career back on track, Warren believes the domestic cracker will be a viable option for Fury.
“If AJ manages to get a couple of wins under his belt — and I believe Tyson will beat Usyk — that may be a fight to be made. But AJ’s got to re-establish himself before you can even think about fights like that. He was badly exposed against Andy Ruiz Jr and the last two fights show what you need to do to beat him," Warren told The Sun.
“All you’ve got to do is keep him on his back foot. If you can move and you’ve got fast hands, he struggles.”
At the moment Fury is targeting an undisputed showdown with Usyk.
Warren is hoping to get the right financial figures to make the fight a reality.
The Saudis are very interested in securing the undisputed fight. They hosted Usyk's rematch with Joshua and also Joshua's rematch with Andy Ruiz.
“The challenge is going to be meeting the financial expectations of both guys. It’s the first time for God knows how long four belts are on the line. It’s going to be all about money," Warren said.
“They’ve seen the money offered to [LIV Tour] golfers. This is more dangerous than golf and is a unique, historic event. It’s the ultimate prize in boxing.”
