UFC 62, from the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, saw UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell destroy Renato Sobral in 95 seconds. A right hand started the damage, and numerous punches sent Sobral to the ground where Liddell landed a few more punches to finish him off.

Forrest Griffin scored a unanimous decision over Stephan Bonnar. All three cards were 30-27 for Griffin. Both fighters suffered hand injuries from the bout, Griffin is said to have broken his hand. Bonnar was in the fight, but Griffin appeared to be a level above him in terms of overall skill.

Christian Wellisch was knocked out Chieck Kongo as a result of a hard knee to the face in the first round. Wellisch came out quick with a takedown and attempted to get a submission, but Kongo escaped. After he was able to get back to his feet, Kongo took over the fight with accurate shots on route to the stoppage.

Nick Diaz made Josh Neer tap in the third when he applied a kimura early in the round. The fighters battled at a very exciting toe to toe pace for the first two rounds, before Diaz was able to land the submission in the third.

Hermes Franca stopped Jamie Varner late in the third round with an armbar. After using takedowns and leg kicks to win the first two rounds, Franca sensed he was behind and came out in the third like a man on a mission. Franca caught Varner with a big knee to the face which hurt him badly. After Varner was docked a point by referee John McCarthy for running, Franca was able to finish him off before the fight went to the cards.
