Welterweight prospect Dave Ryan (9-1, 2KOs) will get his biggest test to date when faces former British champion Young Mutley (26-3, 13KOs) on the undercard to Carl Froch's WBC super middleweight title defense against Andre Dirrell on October 17. The even takes place at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham.
Ryan won the Midlands title in May when he stopped Scott Evans. That title will be on the line. The fight has been set as an eliminator for the English welterweight crown. Mutley has a big edge in experience. Ryan's manager Clifton Mitchell says the fight has come at the right time.
"I wouldn't have taken the fight if I didn't think Dave could win it," Mitchell told thisisnottingham. "We need to find out how good Dave can be and this is a good opponent for him. Mutley is not the fighter he was a few years ago. The first five rounds will be crucial but if he comes through those OK, Dave will go from strength to strength."
