Promoter Eddie Hearn is looking to add another 20,000 seats to the already sold-out Wembley Stadium, as fans continue to go crazy for tickets to witness the rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves, taking place on May 31. Hearn put 60,000 tickets on sale last week, and all of them were sold within an hour. He plans to apply for an additional 20,000 seats - raising the crowd to an enormous 80,000.
"We left [the press conference at] Wembley Stadium on such a high because we sold the 60,000 tickets in an hour, but unfortunately my Twitter has been full of fans who couldn't get tickets. I think we could have done 100,000. People questioned our ethics and our decision in terms of Wembley Stadium. I felt this fight had the demand and we were right," Hearn told Sky Sports.
"We're going to talk to [Transport for London] about extending that to 80,000 - an additional 20,000 tickets. We know it's possible, it's all about the curfew time. Ideally we'd want a slightly after 10 o'clock fight time. If we go to 80,000, Transport for London might want it a little earlier. We've got to talk to them and make sure they're happy. Ultimately we've got a chance not to only to break records, which we've done, but to smash records. I think everyone in London, the counsel and Transport should be behind it to make this event as big as possible."
