Both Damian Frias and Yoryi Estrella have taken on some of the best fighters in the welterweight division. They have both shown potential in their respective careers. Now it's time for one of them to put up, or shut up when they square off April 8th at the Magic City Casino in the "Badia Spices Friday Night Fights" main event.
Frias (16-4, 7 KOs) is a former FECARBOX champion who has faced stiff competition such as Freddy Hernandez and Brad Solomon. He says he is focused, and ready to make an impact at the 147-pound division, but he must first defeat a very tough opponent in Estrella in what is definitely a crossroads fight for both men.
Estrella (10-5-2, 7 KOs) comes in with heavy hands, and a resume with some heavy names on it. He also held a regional title, the WBC Caribe belt, and has taken on top fighters such as Jonathan Gonzalez, and former world champion Carlos Quintana.
“This is a very interesting fight,” Pugilistic Promotions promoter Ramiro Ortiz said. “This is a very even fight. Both men have equal experience, power, and know that a win could lead to televised fights, or a shot at a top welterweight contender.”
Also on the card is popular junior welterweight Xavier Burgos (7-1, 2 KOs) taking on Osenohan Vazquez (2-1, 1 KO) in a battle between two Puerto Ricans. Burgos, nicknamed the "X-Factor" was a Golden Gloves champion in Florida.
In a four round featherweight attraction, Leduan Barthelemy (1-0, 1 KO) the youngest of the Barthelemy fighting family faces Jose Del Valle (0-0-1). The Cuban Barthelemy weighs 122 pounds, but stands at 6 feet tall, making it that much harder for his opponents. His brother Rances Barthelemy says that in his family Yan is the boxer, he's the puncher, and Leduan is a combination of both of them.
Cuban 140-pounder Michael Santander makes his much awaited pro debut against unbeaten Lance Williams (1-0).
The fighting barber Jessy Cruz (3-3, 1 KO) takes on Lance Rogers (1-0) who travels to Miami with hopes of beating the local hero.
Mexican Jesus Lule (1-2) of Ft. Myers faces Elijah Linder (1-1) in a lightweight bout.
Welterweight Wilson Feliciano (2-0, 2 KO) puts his perfect record on the line against fellow Puerto Rican Carlos Ramos (1-1, 1 KO).
And in a flyweight bout, Israel Bruno makes his pro debut against Janiel Rivera (1-0-1).
