Heavyweight contender Fres "Fast Fres" Oquendo (37-7, 24 KO's), who reappeared on Saturday in Kansas City and stopped Galen Brown (41-27-1, 24 KO's) in two rounds, is working his way to another title shot, by moving up the ladder in the rankings of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

According to Oquendo, there are ongoing talks to face former champion Ruslan Chagaev (32-2-1, 20 KOs) of Uzbekistan on June 7th for the vacant WBA "regular" heavyweight crown. In 2011 Chagaev dropped a unanimous decision against Alexander Povetkin  and he's won five bouts since then.

"It is possible that I'll fight for the vacant WBA title against Chagaev, a former world champion who is sixth in the rankings. We are already negotiating and date is June 7 in Chechnya. We have to go there because it's a title shot and I can not pass it up," Oquendo said.
