Veteran Filipino super flyweight Flash Villacura has dropped a unanimous ten round decision to undefeated Fred “The General” Mundraby in a battle for the vacant Australian super flyweight title at the Fortitude Gym in Queensland.
The 33 year old southpaw Villacura who fights out of Sydney was soundly beaten with two of the three judges Cyril Cairns and Paul Tapley scoring a 100-90 shutout in the ten round bout while the third judge Derek Milham gave Villacura one round for a 99-91 scorecard.
With the win Mundraby improved to 10-0-1 with 6 knockouts while Villacura dropped to 23-28-3 with 12 knockouts. The Filipino had also lost 11 fights by knockout.
Fighting out of the Dido Bohol stable, Villacura is another of the mediocre Filipino boxers exploited in Australia in shameless fashion. This is borne out by a study of the past fights of Villacura who is made to move up and down by several weight divisions in order to get fights under Bohol.
The Filipino came in at 130 pounds against Mundraby, weighed 134 ¾ pounds for his previous bout against Adghar Ali Shah on February 27 and 134 ½ for his clash with Will Tomlinson on February 13.
However on December 20, 2009 when Villacura lost a technical decision to Mark Quon he weighed only 119 pounds and in a November 6, 2009 bout against Dean Livanos the Filipino came in at 120 ½ pounds.
In a fight against talented Billy Dib which he retired in the 4th round on October 11, 2009, Villacura weighed 127 ¾ pounds moving up from 118 pounds in a July 26 fight against Francis Oaike.
