Frankie Gavin has been nominated for a shot at the English welterweight title by the British Boxing Board of Control.

It follows his stoppage win over Michael Lomax last month at York Hall.

That's the division where he has campaigned since turning professional two years ago.

The 2007 amateur world champion is unbeaten in nine fights with eight stoppages, and is one of the country's most exciting prospects.

The English title is currently held by Adnan Amar, but the Nottingham boxer hasn't fought in 18 months.

After he beat Lomax, Gavin set his sights on the British light-welterweight title held by Ashley Theophane.

He finds himself in the mix at welterweight because his win over Lomax was at 147 pounds.
