Former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Frankie Gavin has been barred from boxing, reports The Birmingham Mail.
The 30-year-old from Birmingham, who won World amateur gold in 2011, received a five-month prison term suspended for 12 months after his involvement in a violent brawl at a bar in Somerset back in June while on holiday with his family.
Gavin, who was set to return to action early next year to challenge reigning British and Commonwealth 147lb champion Sam Eggington will have to complete 180 hours of unpaid community service before he returns to the ring.
Later this month Gavin will appear before the British Boxing Board of Control’s Midland Council to explain himself. After that meeting the board may force a further ban on the former amateur starlet.
The Board’s general secretary told the Birmingham Mail: “We will gather all the facts and make a meaningful, sensible decision. We want to get the full facts.”
