Promoter Frank Warren has warned former two division world champion Carl Frampton (25-1, 14 KOs) to avoid the scenario of overlooking the upcoming fight with unbeaten contender Luke Jackson (16-0).
The fight between Frampton and Jackson is scheduled for August 18th at Windsor Park in Belfast.
Warren was the promoter for last December's fight involving former world champion James DeGale, who suffered a shocking decision loss to massive underdog Caleb Truax. At the time, everyone expected an easy win for DeGale and some bookies had Truax listed as a 100-1 underdog.
Most experts are predicting an easy win for Frampton in the upcoming bout with Jackson.
To avoid suffering the same outcome as DeGale's bout from last December, Warren is warning Frampton to view Jackson as a very serious threat.
Warren hopes to match Frampton against IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington at the end of the year or early 2019.
“We can’t afford any slip-ups. The important from Carl’s perspective is he can’t afford to fall over on this one. He has to win this one so we can make him and Josh Warrington," Warren said to IFL TV.
“There was a lot of guys unavailable and obviously to defend his title he has to fight someone out of the top 10 in the WBO. Luke Jackson was ranked 5 and he was available and I think he is one of the best guys in that division. I didn’t notice till after we made the fight and I looked at his amateur record, he’d won a Commonwealth bronze medal in his third year of boxing.
“He is obviously a competitive guy, he has fought around the world and is an undefeated fighter. We have seen a few upsets over the last year, some serious upsets and he thinks he is coming here to be an other one. He fancies the job, his team fancy the job and we will see on the night.”
