Veteran promoter Frank Warren reflected back to June 2005, when Ricky Hatton pulled off a shocker and his career-defining win, in stopping Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu in Manchester.

At the time Tszyu was a pound-of-pound fighter and big favorite to win against Hatton, who was largely untested.

At the time of the win, Warren was Hatton's promoter.

Tszyu, who only suffered the second defeat of his pro career, retired from the sport in the aftermath. In December 2010, Tszyu reached the pinnacle when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for the Class of 2011.

"It is almost 15 years since Ricky Hatton's greatest night in the ring. Or should I say greatest fight in the early hours of the morning! It was June 2005 when we got pound-for-pound star Kostya Tszyu to Manchester. Hatton had been a sensation in his home city for years but it was time to make him a star worldwide," Warren told Daily Star.

"They say timing is everything in boxing and it is as much about it inside the ring as out. And we got our timing spot on for Hatton to face Tszyu for the IBF light-welterweight title. The advice from myself was for Hatton to get into a mandatory position to force the Russian-Australian into the fight. Hatton could have fought him earlier but we wanted to wait for everything to be spot on so after he beat Ray Oliveira we knew he was ready.

"It helped us that Tszyu was a Russian-Australian based in America as we could entice him to come over to the UK as we were the ones who brought the crowd. Hatton was already a fans' favourite in Manchester so the city's arena was packed on the night. The fight didn't start until 2am because we wanted it to be on at a better time for US TV.

"This was to be the night this pale kid from Hyde would make waves across the Atlantic. We felt everything had fallen into place at just the right time. The atmosphere was electric as his supporters partied into the early hours. The adrenaline rush kept me going past midnight and when Hatton emerged the place was bouncing. Hatton jumped on Tszyu from the first bell and never gave him a moment's rest. It was a total destruction of a super champion who had ruled for six years in the division. Eventually Tszyu's corner pulled him out before the 11th round and the celebrations began. Hatton ended Tszyu's career in what would be the pinnacle of his own."
