ALTHOUGH the revelations about Ricky Hatton have been bad for the sport, a host of young stars have the perfect platform to give boxing a boost this evening.

There are nine title fights with seven being broadcast by Sky, the first championship contest starting at 6pm.

It's on Sky Box Office so if you are not going to the show, get your mates in, sit back and enjoy watching these 50/50 competitive fights.

The future of a number of the country's brightest prospects will be a lot clearer come Sunday. Nathan Cleverly will be in line for a world-title shot in December if he beats Karo Murat at light-heavyweight.

The Welshman is one of the most exciting boxers at the moment, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the fight.

Perhaps the most intriguing contests are between Kell Brook and Michael Jennings in another eliminator - and a big domestic heavyweight dust-up featuring Sam Sexton and Derek Chisora.

Again, the winner will be progressing towards a world-title shot in the next 18 months. Three European title fights are also on the card, with Matthew Macklin and Matthew Hall having the chance to win the middleweight and the light-middleweight crowns.

Meanwhile, Enzo Maccarinelli makes a tough defence of his cruiserweight crown against unbeaten Alexander Frenkel.

James DeGale and Frankie Gavin, the 2008 Olympians, are also in action and, if their careers go to plan, it won't be long before they are involved in fights at the highest level.

There is a definite changing of the guard in the sport at the moment. With Hatton and Joe Calzaghe no longer fighting, the next generation is coming through.
