Frank Warren is looking to make a big fight for his unbeaten light welterweight Jack Catterall (13-0, 8 KOs) in 2016.
The 22-year-old makes the third defence of his WBO Inter-Continental title this weekend at Manchester Arena against Mexico’s Noe Nunez (15-12-1, 12 KOs), live on Boxnation, as part of the Andy Lee vs. Billy Joe Saunders undercard.
The Chorley southpaw, trained by Lee Beard, has already been linked to a 2016 step up against Californian Mauricio Herrera (22-5, 7 KOs) as reported here on Boxing Scene by Matt Bevan last month https://www.boxingscene.com/jack-catterall-eyes-mauricio-herrera-clash-2016--98617
Boxing Scene caught up with Warren and asked him if Herrera was still a target.
“The fight I would like to make for him is [Adrien] Broner,” he replied.
Broner (31-2, 23 KOs), a three-weight world champion, and the current WBA light welterweight world title holder, would represent a significant jump in class for Catterall who is still to compete in a 12-round contest. However, Warren, sounded extremely keen to get the fight made with the controversial American and doesn’t mind if his man has to travel to America.
“I don’t care where he goes I fancy him to win that one," said Warren "I’d like to get him [Catterall] in the fight and I’d like to get that on some time in the summer.
“I rate him [Broner] but I don’t think he’s the fighter that he thinks he is and our man’s got a real good chance to beat him.”
