Frank Warren has hit back at claims that one of his fighters is being lined up for Ricky Burns.
The Hall of Fame promoter, who handles WBO lightweight world champion Terry Flanagan, has rebuffed the idea of Burns challenging the Mancunian for his global honour, providing the Coatbridge man wins in his next fight.
Burns (39-5-1, 13 KOs) has had his next fight confirmed and will feature as part of the undercard that will support heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua’s next fight on April 9 at the O2 Arena.
And Boxing Scene understands, courtesy of quotes given to the Daily Record by ‘Rickster’s’ manager Alex Morrison, that the 32-year-old will be in line for a shot at a world title if he is victorious in London.
But Warren, who is focusing on his year-ending ‘Xmas Cracker’ card at the Manchester Arena this weekend, exclusively live on BoxNation, and recently confirmed Flanagan’s second world title defence against Liverpool’s Derry Mathews in February, has reiterated his dismay and said that Flanagan will not be in the opposite corner to Burns.
“[It’s] probably best [that] Alex Morrison stops lying,” a tweet, sent from his official Twitter account, read.
“He’s [Alex Morrison has] got enough trouble already! Burns will not be fighting [Terry Flanagan] this summer.”
Warren’s staunch refute comes after Morrison told the aforementioned Scottish newspaper that the former WBO super featherweight and lightweight champion, who’ll fight for a title in Greenwich, will “definitely be given a world title shot in the summer,” providing he comes through unscathed.
