GOLDEN BOY chief-executive Richard Schaefer this week revealed that Amir Khan's July 31 fight with Joel Casamayor would not go ahead.

It is a terrible date to put on a show because it is in the middle of the holiday season and not suitable for PPV.

I don't know who came up with it in the first place because it was a no-brainer.

Schaefer has not got a date for Khan with British PPV TV until December, so the Brit now faces nearly eight months out of the ring. It's crazy for a young fighter like Amir to spend so long on the sidelines.

He blasted out Dmitriy Salita in less than three minutes at the end of last year, so will have had one decent workout in 18 months by the time he next steps through the ropes.

That's dangerous when you are still developing as a fighter.

When Naseem Hamed first became a world champion, he was out four times a year.

Those who are advising Khan aren't doing him any favours.

One of his best one-liners came after covering the Rumble in the Jungle: "Zaire? I wouldn't even fly over that country now because I might crash and live."
