Mexico's Francisco "Bandido" Vargas was granted one of his desires in 2015, to become the champion the world.

On November 21at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Vargas took part in a Fight of The Year battle when he came off the floor to knock out Japan's Takashi Miura to capture the super featherweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

The fight took place on the Saul Alvarez-Miguel Cotto HBO Pay-Per-View undercard.

As the year comes to a close, Vargas (23-0-1, 17KOs) has a single goal in mind - "I want to make as many defenses as possible. I ended [the year] by fighting for the championship and I beat a great fighter. It was a great year."

Vargas plans to speak with his manager in the coming weeks to start working out the details for his next fight. He reiterated his desire to be measured against the champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to unify the titles.

"I think that in April or May (will be the first defense). I'll get together with my manager and my promoter and see what is decided. I would also like to unify with 'Rocky' Martinez or Orlando Salido [who meet in early 2016 in a trilogy clash for the WBO title]."

About the possible of fighting with the winner of Martinez-Salido, he said  - "It would be great, especially with the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico. There are always great matches. I want the winner."

He is even willing to rematch with Miura, although money will play an important role.

"We are here to fight the best. I want big names, good purses and we will fight whoever will economically benefit us the most."
