In another tragic ring story, overshadowed by the weekend's passing of Vernon Forrest, heavyweight prospect Francisco Montivias (1-1, 1KOs) died on Saturday night from injuries that he suffered in only his second pro bout. Montivias, 21-years-old, fought Bobby O'Bannan last Friday at Hollywood Casino in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. The two fighters exchanged knockdowns in the first round, with O'Bannan knocking Montivias out in the fourth. He died the following day from the ring injuries.
Montivias made his ring debut in April of 2009. The second ring death in two weeks. On July 18 in Mexico, Marco Nazareth passed out in the ring, following a fourth round stoppage after taking heavy punches from welterweight prospect Omar Chavez, the son of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez. Nazareth died a few days later in the hospital.
