Hosea Burton came out on top in a contender for scrap of the year.
The Newcastle-born light heavyweight, who is trained in Manchester by Trainer of the Year Joe Gallagher, claimed the vacant British title in a topsy-turvy battle with Miles Shinkwin.
Burton, now 15-0 (6), and Shinkwin, who is promoted by Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions, were both in trouble in the early stages and the Bushey man touched down in the second round.
And although that wasn’t the end of Shinkwin visiting the canvas –– and he was knocked down a further twice –– Burton was on the end of a nose-breaker and had to hold on.
But as the fight progressed, the first knockdown of Shinkwin played a big part, took a lot out of the current Southern Area champion and the referee, Victor Loughlin, was forced to dive between the two and halt the action before a fourth knockdown, landing the 27-year-old his first major title.
Also on the card, Scott Fitzgerald excelled on his debut with a third round stoppage over Ben Heap, who slips to 0-2, while ‘Fitzy’s’ fellow golden boy Josh Taylor, who is now 4-0 (4), ousted Lyes Chaibi (14-10-2, 2 KOs) as he continues his rapid rise in the pro game.
Charlie Edwards (7-0, 4 KOs) emphasised his class for a little man as he produced a pretty much punch-perfect display.
The 23-year-old from Epsom is now in pole position for a shot at the vacant British flyweight title after outboxing Luke Wilton (16-5-1, 7 KOs) over 10 rounds at the Manchester Arena as part of the undercard to the super bantamweight world title unification showdown between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.
In the early stages, both fighters were cagey, but the younger man’s amateur experience was clear to see from the very beginning and –– as the fight progressed –– he pulled away and eventually took the fight on all three judges’ scorecards by the margin of 100 points to 90, picking up the vacant WBC International Silver crown in the process.
Elsewhere on the bill, Conrad Cummings laboured to a points victory over Frenchman Victor Garcia.
Cummings, from Coaslisland, moved to 8-0-1 (3) against the 8-7-3 man after picking up a decision (59-54) from referee Mark Lyson of Liverpool, despite a final round knockdown.
And Marcus Morrison extended his paid ledger to 9-0 (6) with a first round stoppage of Istvan Kiss, who slips to 23-24 (11), of Budapest in Hungary.
