Carl Frampton (19-0, 13KOs) is not cutting any corners in his training camp, as he prepares for a mandatory defense of his IBF super bantamweight title against Chris Avalos (25-2, 19KOs) at the Odyssey in Belfast on February 28.
The two boxers traded words at their kick-off press conference a few weeks ago and the tension has continued to play out week after week.
“We are right in the middle of the hard training. I am sparring 10-12 rounds a day with maybe two or three different sparring partners. Sparring is the most realistic thing to a fight, so you are trying your best and we tell the sparring partners to try their best - and they come to box the way of Avalos - so it can get quite heated and aggressive some times,” added Frampton to Newsletter.
And trainer Shane McGuigan said: "The camp has been going great and he has been sparring fantastically well. I think we have sparred close to 180 rounds and we will do about 220 rounds before the fight. He loves to spar, most guys don’t like to spar - we start to spar eight to nine weeks out from the fight. It helps him get his weight down and it sharpens him up.”
