In response to an earlier story, Christian Cherchi, manager/promoter of promotional company OPI 2000, wanted to clear the air on the situation between his fighter Giacobbe Fragomeni (27-3, 11KOs) and unbeaten EBU cruiserweight champion Alexander Frenkel (23-0, 18KOs). Frenkel said that his trainer informed him that Fragomeni was unwilling to fight him.

"My coach Ulli Wegner said Fragomeni did not want to fight with me," said Frenkel to Bleak. "Now my managers to actively negotiate with other boxers. This is my first voluntary title defense, so the opponent can be any of the guys outside the top ten rankings of the European Boxing Union (EBU)."

Cherchi told BoxingScene.com that his company never received an offer for the fight and there is plenty of time to make the fight in the later part of the year.

"Fragomeni never refused to fight Frenkel. We never got any offer about the fight from Frenkel's promoter. Fragomeni is the official challenger for Frenkel's European title and there is plenty of time to make this fight. On February 12 for Frenkel will be a volountary defence. Fragomeni will fight in Italy in early March. I think Fragomeni in his fight with David Haye showed the world that he's not afraid to fight anybody and deserves respect," Cherchi told BoxingScene.
