Former French amateur star Ishaq Bentchakal was found dead last week. The 24-year-old had been shot four times to the chest and throat.
Bentchakal was considered a can’t-miss prospect as a teenager and won silver medals in the French championships in 2018 and 2019. He turned pro at the age of 19 and went 3-0-1, but his career was interrupted by the pandemic and legal problems.
He had, according to Le Parisien, been sentenced to 18 months in jail for blackmail and was also facing charges for drug dealing.
An investigation on Bentchakal's death is under way, and a source told Le Parisien that in view of the injuries, it looked like an execution.
