The World Boxing Federation has been struggling for some years but Saturday night was a very busy night for the organisation although the biggest fight, the one for its vacant heavyweight title, was cancelled when Dutch-Ugandan Willy Kyakonye, 10-0 (9 KOs), came down with the flu and his fight against Colombian Wilmer Vasquez, 13-3-2 (8 KOs), in Wilnis (The Netherlands) had to be called off.

However, in Schwechat, Austria, WBF welter champ Michaela Kotaskova, 10-0-2 (4 KOs), outscored Argentinian Gisela Noemi Luna, 4-7-1 (1 KO), and light heavy Mobin Khahrazeh, 12-0 (8 KOs), beat Pole Przemysław Gorgoń, 18-15-2 (6 KOs), on points with the WBF International title at stake.

In Flensburg, Germany, WBF super welter champ Freddy Kiwitt, 27-3 (17 KOs), retained the title by stopping Evander Castillo, 17-3 (16 KOs), in the ninth round.

In the chief support, Lara Ochmman, 15-2 (5 KOs), outpointed Japanese Akane Fujiwara, 7-5-1 (2 KOs), to win the vacant WBF title at junior lightweight.

It should be noted the WBF today is not to be confused with the “old” WBF that went down for the count after losing a lawsuit some 20 years ago and later resurfaced as the WBFoundation. The "new" WBFederation was created by "defectors" from the Foundation.
