Earlier today a press release was distributed announcing that the IBF had ordered a cruiserweight eliminator between undefeated BJ Flores and Yoan Pablo Hernandez (22-1). Flores is rated #8 by the IBF and Hernandez is ranked #4. Hernandez is on an 8 fight winning streak while BJ Flores is 24-0-1.
BoxingScene spoke to Flores who said, "Ryan I am excited about this opportunity. I had other options on the table but this seems to be the best option to get me where I want to be." Flores didn't want to get to excited. "The fight was ordered by the IBF but we don't have a signed contract yet. I should have more information in the next few weeks."
Hernandez is promoted by Sauerland Event and Flores is promoted by Square Ring. Both sides have until July 20th to reach an agreement on the terms of the fight or it will go to purse bid. The fight most likely take place in Germany.
Flores hasn't fought since last August and probably will need a full 8 week training camp to get ready for the biggest fight of his career to date. The winner of the eliminator will be the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Steve Cunningham. "This is a big opportunity for me and I want to make sure I am 100% ready for the fight. Hernandez can fight and I am not taking him lightly."
