Flint, Michigan - WJRT reports that unbeaten super middleweight prospect Anthony Dirrell was released from jail at 11am on Tuesday after being arrested for a possible connection with an armed bank robbery that took place on Monday.

The fighter was arrested on Monday afternoon and spent the night in jail after police stopped a Dodge Charger that matched the description of the vehicle used in the robbery. Dirrell was driving the vehicle and a gun was recovered from the car.

The case has not been closed against Dirrell, pending further investigation. Dirrell's attorney, Frank Manley, says new information has come in about the case. He said the Dodge Charger used in the robbery was red and Dirrell's car is orange. He also said Dirrell has a valid permit to carry a firearm.

"We received information about the car that Mr. Dirrell was in," Manley said. "It did not match the description that was given to police. He does have a permit to carry a firearm lawfully. I can't say that the case has been closed and he's been exonerated. But it's certainly a good sign that he's been freed."

Dirrell was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, a type of cancer and has not fought since 2006. He's said to be near the point of recovery and just about ready to resume his career. He was on his way to chemotherapy when police stopped his car. Dirrell is the brother of unbeaten super middleweight Andre Dirrell.
