Frank Warren’s office has informed BoxingScene that a deal has been reached between them and Top Rank over the WBO lightweight title showdown between Terry Flanagan and Jose Zepeda, so the fight will not go to purse bids.
The date and venue have yet to be announced, but the contest will take place in the United Kingdom, handing Flanagan home advantage for his first world title tilt.
The WBO announced the match-up last week following Raymundo Beltran’s failure to make the 135 lb limit for his fight with Takahiro Ao, which he won by second-round TKO. Once the title became vacant, the organization moved swiftly by ordering a title fight between Flanagan and Zepeda, rated number two and number five, respectively.
Both fighters are undefeated entering the title fight - Flanagan is 27-0 (10) and Zepeda has a 23-0 (20) record. Someone’s ‘0’ will have to go when the 25-year-olds vie for their first world title belt.
