James Metcalf will return to the ring in a couple of months.
The talented Liverpudlian, who is managed by MTK Global and recently inked promotional terms with Frank Warren, has been out of the ring since last October.
Metcalf (14-0, 6 KOs) dropped Serge Ambomo on the way to an eight-round decision at Greenbank Sports Academy in his home city.
But the next outing for the 28-year-old will take place just a bit further down the road.
‘Kid Shamrock’, the son of Shea Neary, revealed to Fight Disciples on Radio City Talk, a dedicated boxing talk show in Liverpool, on Tuesday that he will return to the ring on April 8, exclusively live on BT Sport and BoxNation.
As he looks to extend his unblemished ledger to 15-0, the super-welterweight, who has been a prize fighter since December 2011, will appear on new promoter Warren’s maiden show of the BT Sport broadcast deal, topped by Terry Flanagan in a defence of his WBO lightweight world title against Petr Petrov at the Manchester Arena.
Metcalf –– who was part of the undercard to Tony Bellew’s WBC world cruiserweight title win against Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park last May –– said that the fighter he will be up against in his next fight is from Manchester and Boxing Scene understands Mark Thompson (28-5, 16 KOs), the former British title challenger who is Heywood-based, will be the man in the opposite corner.
Further details regarding additions to the card will be made public in due course, but the card already boasts the debut outing of double Olympic champion Nicola Adams, the first outing in the paid code for heavyweight youngster Daniel Dubois and a mouthwatering clash between Liam Williams and Liam Smith for the former’s WBO European crown in the same division as Metcalf.
