On March 28th, Mohammed Faisal aka Fes Batista (who is half Indian) made by becoming the first Indian boxer to fight professionally in America. It was a successful pro debut for Batista as he outpointed Law Purifoy on the undercard of Roy Jones Jr. homecoming card.
The card took place at the Pensacola Bay Center with just under 10,000 fans in attendance. Batista, who will be forever linked to pop sensation Lady Gaga, said it was an amazing experience to fight in such a packed venue.
Batista, who is a British citizen of Pakistani and Indian descent, also said he was proud to learn of his accomplishment.
"This news makes me very proud to be Indian and I want America and the world to know that Indians can fight! It was the greatest moment of my life having my hand raised in front of nearly 10,000 people.
"I am taking a few days off then straight back into training. Me and Roy talk all the time and we will speak about the next step. He said he was very proud of me, the way I handled adversity and came back like a true champ," Batista told BoxingScene.com.
