WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel (38-2-1, 28KOs) predicts a very tough fight when he defends his title against Nonito Donaire (20-1, 13KOs), who is also the WBO's flyweight title holder. The fight takes place on March 14 at Araneta Coliseum in Metro Manila, Philippines. Showtime is said to be televising.
"The fight is very risky and dangerous. The winner will be the one with the better strategy, and comes full prepared to the ring. I know that Donaire is strong and that helped him beat Darchinyan," Montiel told ESTO.
The winner of Montiel-Donaire will probably meet the winner of the February 7 clash between unified super flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce. Montiel doesn't think much of his countryman, Arce, and wouldn't be surprised if the fight ended early, but he doesn't rule out an Arce upset.
"It's not going to last too long. I believe it will go six or seven rounds. It's difficult, but Arce has a chance to win. The key to beat Darchinyan is to use intelligence, to respect him and to keep him at a distance," Montiel said.
