Fernando Montiel Sr. is in Las Vegas to help Jorge "Travieso" Arce prepare for his super bantamweight title shot versus Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. The fight is the co-featured bout underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley mega fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.
The elder Montiel advised BoxingScene.com that his son with his namesake is looking to return to the ring on June 25th in Mexico. It will be Montiel's first fight since his devastating knockout loss to Nonito Donaire in February.
"He (Fernando) is coming back on June 25th in Mexico. It is just a little fight to get him back in the ring."
Montiel (44-3-2) is moving up to super bantamweight and is looking to capture a world title in a 4th weight division. His father said that he had a nice rest and dismissed rumors that his son had a fractured jaw. "There was nothing wrong with his jaw. He took a nice little rest and now he is better than ever. He really struggled to make 118 and he will be even better at 122 pounds."
His opponent has not been determined yet.
