Wallsend’s Dave Ferguson is considering his options in the wake of his first round KO defeat to Larry ‘War Machine’ Olubamiwo last Friday night.  Dave, 12-3 (4), was expected to give Larry a stiff test only to be stiffened himself by Larry’s early swings.  Referee Howard Foster counted Ferguson out in the act of rising at 1:52 of the opening session; the 34-year-old maintains that he mistimed the count but admitted that he is considering his options.

“I want to take a long rest and then see how I feel about the future.  I got caught but I was all right and was listening to the count. However, I mistimed it and that was that.  It happens in boxing,” said Ferguson when speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle.

“In an ideal world I would have preferred more time between fights.  I had boxed three weeks previously in a six rounder and was then heading straight into a 10 rounder.  Fighting three times in three months was too much.”
