Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech believes WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) would do another job on eight division beltholder Manny Pacquiao - if they ever met again in a rematch.
Back in July, Horn pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao to capture the WBO belt before a crowd of over 50,000 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
A planned November rematch fell through after Pacquiao cited that he was unable to go forward due to scheduling conflicts with his position as a senator in the Philippines.
Pacquiao is still discussing a ring return in the first quarter of 2018, and he does have a rematch clause that he can exercise to fight Horn again.
If they do meet again, Fenech expects the same outcome as the first meeting.
"I don’t believe he can beat Jeff Horn, unless he can land a lucky punch early," Fenech told Sky Sports’ Big Sports Breakfast.
"Jeff showed him. He (Pacquiao) hit Jeff in the ninth and he was gone and Manny didn’t have the energy to get out there and finish it off and Jeff Horn went out there and won the next round after nearly getting stomped.''
Horn will make the first defense of the title on December 13, in Brisbane, against British contender Gary Corcoran.
If Horn wins, which most believe he will, there is already a big name waiting in the wings.
The World Boxing Organization recently named undefeated Terence Crawford as the mandatory challenger to the WBO title.
Fenech views Crawford as a much tougher opponent when compared to Pacquiao.
"It’s really tough, Jeff’s one of these guys that has these styles that he’s a workaholic, he’s big, he’s strong and some of these other guys in America are much better than Manny," Fenech said.
"Although Manny’s got the name and Manny’s the legend, Manny’s time is done and I knew that. When he has to fight the (Terence) Crawford’s and so on, it’s going to be much more difficult. ’But look he prepares so well, he believes in himself and after beating someone like Manny Pacquiao you can only get better."
