The ring return of Puerto Rican contender Felix Verdejo will take place on April 20 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
According to multiple sources in Puerto Rico, Verdejo will collide in the ring with ex-world champion Bryan "Tiquito" Vasquez - who is surely the most experienced opponent of Verdejo's career.
The contest will be part of the preliminaries of the event that will be headlined by the welterweight confrontation between WBO world champion Terence Crawford and challenger Amir Khan - which also tops an ESPN Pay-Per-View.
After several failed attempts to get back into the ring, Verdejo finally has a clear picture of when, where and against whom his progress will continue, as he tries to get close to a starting chance at 135 pounds.
Ricky Marquez, the head coach and manager of the Puerto Rican boxer, had previously told Primera Hora that his boxer's promoter, Top Rank, had expressed interest in Verdejo being part of the show. His participation will likely assist with ticket sales, as New York City has a large Puerto Rican market.
Top Rank is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days.
Verdejo has not seen action since last November, when he picked up an easy knockout win in two rounds. Verdejo (24-1, 16 KOs) is still trying to repaire his career after suffering an unexpected knockout loss at the hands of Antonio Lozada in March of 2018.
