Felix Verdejo was supposed to headline this past weekend's 'Solo Boxeo' card on UniMas from 'the Sun Dome' on the campus of Univeristy of South Florida but an injury to his left hand during camp forced a cancellation of that appointment.
The highly regarded prospect, who is promoted by Top Rank, has a chance to be the heir apparent to Miguel Cotto as the next star from the island of Puerto Rico. According to his manager, Ricky Marquez, they have already rescheduled his 2015 debut.
"Felix will be back on April 25th in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, in his 17th fight and his first 10-round fight, against the same opponent he was supposed to face last Saturday in Tampa - tough Mexican Marco 'Kua Kua' Lopez 24-3 (15 KO's). They were supposed to fight eight rounds in February but now Felix wanted his first 10-rounder to be in the island, so he ask me to make the change and Lopez's people wanted to make it a 10 round fight from the beggining so we'll do that. He is running and he will begin training next week, so hopefully the injury is 100% healed," said Marquez.
The 21-year old phenom has a record of 16-0 (12 KO's) and was kept on a busy pace last year, fighting seven times.
