BoxingScene.com recently caught up with unbeaten Puerto Rican prospect Felix "Diamanté" Verdejo (18-0).  The 22-year-old last fought on June 13th when he won an unanimous decision over Ivan Najera in an HBO televised fight.

The 2012 Puerto Rican Olympic team member went into the Najera fight with an injured left hand. He said that it had got to the point where he had to have surgery.

"I started feeling the pain right away in the first round but I had to keep fighting to win the fight. I put my mind and focus on the fight and thanks to God I was able to win.

"I feel better. Day by day I am feeling better and able to do more. The plan is to fight again in October or November but we have to see how my hand responds when I start using it," said Verdejo.

Verdejo had been very active until  hand injuries slowed down his progress. He fought 8 times in 2013 - his first year as a pro - and seven times last year. If everything goes well he hopes to get one or two more fights in the book this year.

"We have to see what happens with the hand but we are planning on having at least one more fight this year," Verdejo told BoxingScene.com.
