Felix Trinidad Sr, father and trainer of former three-division champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad, says Oscar De La Hoya should not look for other fights and simply walk away. He doesn't want to tell De La Hoya what to do. He says the ultimate decision is a personal one and only De La Hoya can make the final call on retirement.
Trinidad Sr. was upset with De La Hoya's performance and couldn't believe that Oscar was stopped on the stool by a lightweight moving up to welterweight. He said the fight was so one-sided that many people are questioning how serious De La Hoya actually took Pacquiao. Trinidad Sr. and his son have tried to make a rematch with De La Hoya for many years, but they are no longer going to call for a De La Hoya fight.
"De La Hoya has defrauded me because I picked him to win by decision. He picked a fighter in the division who could cause a small amount of damage, but that didn't work because Pacquiao hurt him from all sides. It was a fight that hurt boxing because it left doubts of the seriousness involved," Trinidad told El Nuevo Dia. "I wouldn't dare tell him [to retire]. It's something very personal. As any other fighter, he has to sit down with his wife and family and decide what to do and take into consideration that his health is at risk."
