Civil war in Eastern Ukraine between regular militaries and local guerillas (also known as “local militia”, “separatists” and/or “terrorists” – depending on which party is describing them) continues to take its toll. It was been announced tonight that professional boxer Fedor Mushtranov, who fought against the Ukrainian government, was killed in action near a hot point of Debaltsevo, where melee continues despite an announced truce.

Donetsk native Mushtranov, 32 at the time of death, was an established amateur boxer with almost two hundred wins. He also won Kostya Tszyu Cup in Sydney, Australia in 2008 as well as a number of other international tourneys.

His professional career wasn’t that successful. His record read as 5-5, with 2 KOs. He once fought for the WBC Youth I/C welterweight title losing to 9-0 prospect Konstantin Ponomarev in 2011. His last bout took place in August 2013.

Mushtranov's death took place a week ago during most brutal confrontation between regular forces, besieged in Debaltsevo, and attacking guerilla. It is also reported that Mushtranov saved the life of a woman in 2009, preventing a possible rape from thugs.
