LAS VEGAS – Former featherweight champion Mark Magsayo has joined Zuffa Boxing, and is slated to debut for the promotion April 5, officials connected to the signing told BoxingScene Sunday.
The Philippines’ Magsayo, 28-2 (18 KOs) attended Sunday’s Zuffa card at the Apex in Las Vegas, along with new stablemate and cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia, who makes his Zuffa debut March 8 at the Apex.
Magsayo, 30, last fought Jorge Mata on the Manny Pacquiao-Mario Barrios undercard July 19 in Las Vegas.
He won the WBC featherweight belt by defeating Gary Russell Jnr in 2022, losing the strap less than six months later versus Rey Vargas.
Magsayo lost right away again to new WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa, but has won four consecutive bouts since.
Zuffa Boxing has moved quickly to advance from a promotion loaded with young prospects toward more established fighters who’ve fought for and won titles.
Recent 140lbs champion Teofimo Lopez attended Sunday’s show with his manager Michael Borao, but declined to comment when asked about his interest in joining the promotion.
BoxingScene will have more on the Magsayo signing.
