(AP) GOLD COAST, Australia - Former world boxing champion Jeff Fenech, who recently trained Mike Tyson, will face a Gold Coast court on Friday accused of shoplifting, local media reported.

Fenech and another man allegedly stole three wrist watches worth 400 Australian dollars ($290) on Wednesday from a jewelry shop on the Gold Coast, a tourist strip in northern Queensland state.

Fenech was interviewed by police detectives on Thursday but refused to answer questions, Australian Associated Press reported.

A Queensland Police media spokeswoman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, would not officially identify Fenech but did not reject information contained in media reports.

"We can confirm that a 41-year-old man and a 58-year-old man from Sydney will face Southport Magistrates Court in relation to a stealing incident," she said.

Fenech, 41, who won world titles in the bantamweight, super bantamweight and featherweight divisions, was dubbed during his fighting days as "The Marrickville Mauler" after his childhood home in inner Sydney.

He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York in June 2002.

Fenech trained Tyson, a controversy-plagued former heavyweight champion, for his last fight in June. Tyson quit after six rounds against Kevin McBride at the MCI Center in Washington.
