EBU heavyweight champ Paolo Vidoz will take on mandatory challenger Michel Sprott from the UK, in Germany, with Sauerland Event promoting. The date will be either September 17 or October 1.
Ukrainian Sergej Dzindziruk, signed to Universum, defends the EBU 154 lb title on September 9 in Spain against Ruben Varon.
In regards to the vacant EBU 135 lb title, Belorussian Yuri Romanov has withdrawn from the contest and replaced by Italian veteran Stefano Zoff. Pole Matt Zegan, now signed to Don King Productions, remains in the mandatory challenger spot for now, although it´s likely we´ll see Zoff against the highest available challenger in the near future.
Sauerland Event won purse bids for the vacant EU 154 lb title battle between Alexander Sipos, fresh off a points win over Frenchman Christophe Canclaux Saturday night, and signed to SES, Czech Lukas Konecny. Date and site is to be determined.
The promoters - Universum and OPI 2000 - behind the Stipe Drews vs Silvio Branco battle for the vacant EBU 175 lb title, have now until July 20 to come to an agreement. The final date for an agreement or purse bids have already been postponed twice.
It didn´t take long for OPI 2000, headed by Salvatore Cherchi, to put out a press release protesting against the close decision win for Danilo Haussler against Cristian Sanvia on Saturday night in Nuremberg, at stake was the vacant WBA I/C 168 lb crown. The press release was published just hours after the fight. OPI 2000 will also officially make a protest to the WBA and demand a rematch.
