WBA heavyweight champ Nikolai Valuev is done with his high altitude training in Armenia and is now heading for Berlin and then to the United States for a promotional tour. If Valuev, as been hinted by many, indeed will visit Empire State Building a la King Kong, has not been revealed.
Spotlight Boxing promotes next in Cuxhaven on September 17 with middleweight Khoren Gevor on top. Gevor is the mandatory challenger for EBU champ Amin Asikainen but is also number two in the WBO ratings where Colombian Edison Miranda is number one. As Miranda will fight IBF champ Arthur Abraham it´s likely that Gevor goes for a possible world title shot against Jermain Taylor and pass on the EBU title.
Number one IBF super middleweight challenger Robert Stieglitz is kept waiting despite winning an eliminator in December of last year. There will be purse bids for Calzaghe vs Stieglitz in early November. Robert could have gotten the October 14 date with Joe but no TV deal could be worked out with a German network as that date was already reserved for the Markus Beyer vs Mikkel Kessler WBC/WBA unification bout.
Universum keep it slow during September with only the alredy announced show in Magdeburg on September 9 but will stage two shows in October. Who is headlining? "It will be something heavy" said Universum press officer Christof Hawerkamp with a smile.
VeLaBo, Veres Laszlo Boxing, Ltd makes its promotional debut on Friday (Aug 25) in Budapest when welter Joszef Matolcsi headlines. VeLaBo fronts in this case for Polish Boxing Promotion, who don´t have a Hungarian license.
