EBU flyweight champ Andrea Sarritzu retained the EBU title last night in Ajaccio, France, on a controversial split draw against local hero Bernard Inom. On the same bill Italian veteran Cristian Sanavia won the EBU super middleweight crown with a split decision over Russian Devi Gogiya. In a fight for the vacant EU lightweight belt Spaniard Juan Carlos Diaz Melero outscored Frenchman Jean Nicolas Weigel. Also for the vacant EU title but at flyweight saw Christophe Rodrigues, cut on the scalp and unable to continue, defeat ex-WBO ruler Jose Antonio Lopez Bueno on a technical decision.
Media in both the UK and Denmark writes that Sports Network headed by Frank Warren have accepted an earlier offer from Int´l Entertainment/ Team Palle for Joe Calzaghe to fight Mikkel Kessler in Denmark in September. The offer is for 5.5 million USD plus UK TV rights. Suprisingly, there has not been a word of comment from Team Palle. Calzaghe will attend a press conference on Monday in London to make what is described as a "big announcement".
