Sauerland Event won purse bids on September 6, for the fight involving the vacant EU title. The two comatants are Cengiz Koc and Steffen Nielsen. When and where, has yet to be announced. Koc is already lined up to fight the winner between EBU champ Paolo Vidoz and Michael Sprott, scheduled for October 1 in Oldenburg.
Ukrainian heavyweight Alexander Dimitrenko takes on American Vaughn Bean on September 28, as part of the big Lamon Brewster Brewster vs Krasniqi bill. Bean has been relatively inactive the last few years, but is a capable opponent for the IBF Youth champ.
Yesterday´s announcement by the Swedish media with respect to changing the law that prohibits professional boxing, is going to be a reality. According to the Minister of Sports, Bosse Ringholm, the law will now include K 1 and other martial arts that didn´t exist in 1970 when pro boxing was banned. Björn Rosengren, head of the Swedish Boxing Association, still feels the change gives an opening for promoters who want to put on professional boxing events as it will be up to local authorities to decide if the rules are "safe" enough to "protect" the participants.
