Philatelists and collectors of boxing memorabilia now have a new goal for their interests. Ukrainian state postal agency “Ukrpochta” issued a new type of stamp, dedicated to Ukraine’s greatest champions of all time. Both Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko are depictured together on a stamp, which costs 1.50 gr. or, correspondingly, 19 cents. The stamp was created by artist Natalia Fandikova and has several levels of protection including microtext (“Klitschko” + artist’s name) that can be seen in ultraviolet. An initial number of copies (170.000) were sold out in several hours.
It’s worth noting that the elder brother and reigning WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has been recently awarded with the top German Order of merit “For outstanding service to Germany”, which has been presented to him by recently resigned German president Horst Keller. The Big Brother was also named Hero of Ukraine in 2004.

It looks like IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (29-1, 17 KOs), 34, can put his regalia at stake against Polish mandatory challenger Rafal “Braveheart” Jackiewicz (36-8-1, 18 KOs), 33, on Aug. 21 in his homeland of Slovenia. Zaveck’s only loss came to the same opponent in November 2008, when Jackiewicz (now ranked #1 by the IBF and #2 by the WBO) was lucky to squeak out with a thin split decision in what many observers saw as a victory for Zaveck.
“It’s a memorable date when I’ve got to know about my future challenge”, said the Pole to boxingnews.pl, “Exactly nine years ago I was almost stabbed to death in a bar fight. I was lucky to survive despite having literally wounded heart. I will become a champion”.

IBF mandatory challenger Roman Karmazin (40-3-2, 26 KOs) can be given another chance to fight for the IBF middleweight belt against reigning titleholder Sebastian Sylvester (33-3-1, 16 KOs) from Germany. Their first encounter a week ago ended up in a heated and somewhat controversial split draw that favoured Sylvester.
Sauerland Event boss Wilfried Sauerland, who promotes Sylvester, was quoted by German “Sport Bild” saying the following: “There’s nothing which can prevent a rematch from staging. It can be either the next or the next-to-next fight for Sebastian”. However, Sylvester indicated that he isn’t planning a ring return till October.

According to boxingnews.pl, former undisputed heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe (43-1, 33 KOs), now 43, who was last seen outpointing journeyman Gene Pukall in December 2008, can soon come back to the ring. The Big Daddy intends to visit Germany for negotiations about a possible date and venue with undisclosed German promoters.
Polish sources wide-spread rumours about Bowe’s next opponent being his arch-nemesis Andrzej Golota (41-8-1, 33 KOs), 42. Golota, on the other hand, told media he is “not here to fight daddies”. Golota vs. Bowe two-fight rivalry is infamous for Golota’s series of blows below Bowe’s beltline which resulted in two consecutive disqualifications.
