Professional boxing returns to Monte Carlo July 20 when World Sport Promotions stage a big show there with lightheavies Yuri Barashyan (Ukraine) and Massimiliano Saiani (Italy) squaring off for the vacant WBA I/C title. In the co-main event Sergei Gulyakevich and Tontcho Tontchev clash for the vacant WBA I/C crown at 130. Israeli heavy Roman Greenberg is in against Frenchman Antoine Palatis while lightheavy Vyacheslav Uzelkov fights Frederic Serrat.
No official confirmation but it looks like Vitaly Tsypko v Brian Magee for the vacant EBU 168 lb title set for May 27 in Kiev is postponed or cancelled due to a back injury suffered by Tsypko.
Russian Andrey Devyatakin won the CIS & Slovianic 135 lb title with a ninth round stoppage of Nicolay Feodorov April 26 in Chelyabinsk.
Dane Lasse Johansen grabbbed the IBF Int´l cruiser title in Brno (Czech Republic) yesterday with a clear points victory over Lubos Suda. -Lasse fought a beautiful fight, says trainer Brian Mathiassen. -Johansen was superior on the outside and my guy couldn´t get on the inside, commented promoter Jiri Hochmann, who added that they had offered Johansen, handled by Risum Boxing, a rematch or perhaps a fight against OK-KO´s other cruiser Roman Kracik.
