Danish welter Thomas Damgaard has pulled out of the EBU title fight against Oktay Urkal that was set for September 3 in Berlin and was to have been the chief support to Beyer vs Sheika (WBC 168). Bjarne Nielsen, reporting for Danish paper Ekstra Bladet, broke the story that Damgaard was pulling out of the Urkal fight over a week ago but it hasn´t been confirmed until now by Team Palle, who promotes and manages the 34-year old former EBU 140 and 147 lb champ, who in the spring also pulled out of a WBA title fight against Jose Antonio Rivera.
Team Palle also reports that supermiddle Rudy Markussen has turned down an offer to take on WBO ruler Joe Calzaghe September 10. Markussen was not happy with the financial circumstances of the offer.
