British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (24-1, 18KOs) is taking a very big risk by stepping in the ring with IBO/WBA/IBF/WBC middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs).
A few months ago, Eubank Jr. - and his father/trainer Chris Eubank Sr. - began beating the drum for a fight with Golovkin. Nobody thought they were serious and viewed their statements as nothing more than propaganda to gain press clippings.
But now the fight is close to a deal for a fall date in the UK. Their respective promoters are finalizing the details of a fight that very few expected to happen.

Eubank Jr. is ultra confident in his abilities to win the fight. He says Golovkin is nothing more than a guy with a big punch. Eubank and his father are not even putting together a game plan for Golovkin. He strongly feels that his natural talent, and his ability to adjust in the ring, is more than enough to hand Golovkin his first defeat as a pro.
Golovkin has knocked out his last 22 opponents and nobody has lasted longer than eleven rounds with him. Eubank Jr. believes he can shock the world and become the next rising superstar in boxing.
"As far as fire, grit, determination - he hasn't got anything on me. He's done everything that he's needed to do. He's had his career and I've got so much to prove to the fans and the world, and that fire is not going to be put out," Eubank told BoxingScene.com.
"My father believes in me as any father should. He's guided me my entire career and together we've going to take this monster down. With this type of fight, Gennady Golovkin, game plans don't matter. You get in there and do what you need to do to win - seek and destroy."
