The three-time champion in two different weight divisions, Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada, stressed that instead of facing Carlos Cuadras in a rematch, as his promoters plan, he would love to go directly to the unification battle with the Nicaraguan Román 'Chocolatito' González, who holds the WBA world title at super flyweight.
"I have had rematches before, in fact, I have three defeats and I have already avenged two of them, I am missing one and that is Chocolatito," said Estrada, who is currently the WBC super flyweight champion.
“It's what I've always wanted, to unify titles, at flyweight it didn't happen, but at super flyweight it's what I want. I already beat Cuadras and if there is a rematch with Chocolatito, that's better, for me it would be better, also it would involve a better purse."
Although he did not rule out that a rematch with Cuadras would be good, he believes the second time around it would be easier.
"A rematch would be easier for me because I already know how to fight him, I already know his punches, and what to expect, I think it would be easier, because I already know the fighter," said Estrada, who accepted that he has not been able to train 100 percent in their camp due to the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, Cuadras has not removed the finger from the line and is sure that in the rematch he will dethrone Estrada.
“I'm just more disciplined now, hungry to be world champion again. Recent fights let me show that Carlos Cuadras is around for a while. I have experience, youth and my body has responded well to me in the gym, and that is why I am so sure that I can take the championship away from Estrada," Cuadras stated.
Guillermo Brito, executive of Zanfer Promotions, indicated that there is an agreement for Estrada and Cuadras to meet again. Estrada beat him by a narrow decision a few years ago.
