Even though manager Frank Espinoza spent the holidays away with his family, he continuously kept up with the world of boxing and its many developments. Espinoza is the manager of WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares and many other talents.

"I hear there's talk of making a Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Nonito Donaire fight. Professionally it's a backwards step for Donaire. Abner is far more accomplished than Rigondeaux as a pro. Nonito knows that a win over Abner Mares would be a lot more meaningful to his legacy," said manager Frank Espinoza. "No disrespect to Rigo, but the fight most fans want to see is Nonito vs. Abner Mares. Rigo doesn't have the following of Mexican fans like Abner does and that's a huge market which can never be ignored."

Espinoza continued: "I hope to be instrumental in making this fight happen," he said. "It's an incredibly opportunity for Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions to come together and make this and other fights a reality."

Espinoza plans to speak with Donaire's promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, with the hope that a deal can be reached.

"Mares and Nonito are made for each other," Espinoza went on. "The Mexico vs Philippines rivalry is hot so it's very marketable. Both of these fighters would benefit financially like never before. No promotional company should get in the way of these young men fulfilling their earning potential in the difficult profession they've chosen."

"At this point, Golden Boy Promotions has given me reason to believe they would make the fight," said Espinoza. "I hope to meet with Bob Arum soon and convince him to get on board. We need to get across the importance of this fight to the fans, the fighters and the industry. People are asking for this fight and the fighters are asking for this fight. It's 2013. Lets give the fans and the fighters what they want. They want Mares vs. Donaire and it's being denied to them. Let's change that."
