Errol Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) is still waiting for the situation to play out with the IBF. The sanctioning body ordered him to Konstantin Ponomarev (30-0, 13 KOs) in an IBF final eliminator.

Reportedly Top Rank is interested in making Spence-Ponomarev, but his co-promoter Ural Boxing Promotions is not very receptive to the fight.

If Ponomarev drops out, then Spence will need to wait for the sanctioning body to name the next highest ranked contender.

Spence is hoping to get his hands on IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) in the coming months.

He denies a few statements that were made by Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn, who claimed the unbeaten challenger turned down the shot.

"That don't make any sense. Why would I decline Kell Brook to get fight in a title eliminator to fight Kell Brook. What sense does that make? That doesn't make any sense. Why would I risk that [title shot] with a guy who's 30-0 when I can just fight Kell Brook," Spence told BoxingScene.com.

Brook has a deal in place for a unification with WBO world champion Jessie Vargas, with August 27th as the frontrunner date in the champion's backyard of Sheffield, England.

Spence has no issue with the unification, because it gives him the opportunity to challenge for two titles in the weight class. He is giving Brook the edge to win, because the contest takes place on UK soil and better yet in Brook's hometown.

"It's better for me...one fight I get two belts," Spence said. "I'm gonna lean to Kell Brook. I think Kell Brook will win that, especially if they're fighting in the UK. And in his hometown as well, so a lot of odds against [Jessie Vargas]. He will have to knock him out or beat Kell Brook's ass to get a decision."
