Premier Boxing Champions have released a statement regarding the condition of IBF, WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence, who was hospitalized after a serious car accident early Thursday morning in Dallas, Texas.
"Spence is awake and responding and his condition is listed as stable. He did not sustain any broken bones or fractures, but has some facial lacerations. He is expected to make a full recovery," the statement noted.
"He is currently resting with his family by his side. They want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes and are extremely grateful to the Dallas first responders who rushed to the scene to attend to Errol after the accident and the doctors who are taking care of him at the hospital."
News broke early Thursday morning, that Spence was driving at a high rate of speed and lost control of his white Ferrari. The vehicle rolled over multiple times at around 3AM (GMT).
At some point during the accident, Spence was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital.
Spence (26-0, 21 KOs), 29-years-old, unified the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation titles last month with a twelve round split decision victory over Shawn Porter at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
He was expected to return to the ring in January, with a voluntary defense against former two division world champion Danny Garcia.
